Activities: NVCOG’s Revolving Loan Fund Committee awarded the city of Shelton a $400,000 subgrant for remedial activities at adjacent parcels along Canal Street that contains the remnants the former Samarius Electronic Corporation, Chromium Process, and Axton Cross industrial complexes. Redevelopment plans call for the construction of a mixed-use development incorporating more than 100 mixed-income apartments and 1,745 square-feet of commercial space within Shelton’s downtown district. Redevelopment plans also include a publicly accessible outdoor area and new walkway connecting to the Shelton Riverwalk. The city of Shelton and NVCOG have executed a subaward agreement.

In July 2025, NVCOG was awarded $2.9 million from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s Round 21 Brownfield Remediation and Development Program for remediation at 113 and 125 Canal Street in Shelton. The grant will be used for groundwater and soil cleanup, excavation, and disposal. 

Project Status: The City of Shelton and NVCOG have executed a subaward agreement. Arcadis has been retained to oversee ongoing environmental activities. NVCOG and DECD are working to execute the financial assistance agreement for the project.
