Project Type: Assessment
Activities: The Borough of Naugatuck (“Borough”) was awarded assessment funding by the Regional Brownfields Partnership Executive Board in January 2026 to complete a Hazardous Materials Buildings Analysis of 6 Rubber Avenue or commonly known as the Naugatuck Event Center. Environmental data collected under this funding will help the Borough identify what abatement of the building is required to prepare the site for the identified end-use.
The building was originally constructed in the 1950’s as a rubber and canvas shoe warehouse and retail sales storefront operated by the United States Rubber Company and then Uniroyal, Inc. In 1986, GDC moved to the Site. GDC designed, tested and manufactured electronic equipment used in data communications until vacating the property in June 2016. In 2020, the NVCOG Revolving Loan Fund Committee awarded the Borough $100,000 in remediation funding to abate a portion of the first floor of the building to be used as storage space for the Borough.
Project Status: An Environmental Firm is anticipated to be contracted in the Spring of 2026 to begin environmental assessment work on site.
